BrightStars Framework Topic for Child Care Centers and Public Preschool: Group Size & Ratio Postings
posted: 04.28.2015 by Jayme Irene Hines, Manager for Quality Improvement

Whether you have a public school preschool, or a child care center, BrightStars requires that you post the child-staff ratio and group size in or near each group/classroom.
All programs and providers should meet the 2013 DCYF Child Care regulations for staff-child ratio; mixed-age groups must meet the group size requirements for the youngest child in the group. These postings are observed during an assessment site visit for all programs applying for a 2-Star rating or higher.
The intent of this posting is to assist in informing parents about the group size and ratio of the classroom that their child attends. This posting should be in or near the appropriate classroom. If the program wishes to post the sign at the front of the business or school, that is understandable but that posting does not replace the specific sign that needs to be posted in or near the group/classroom.
BrightStars understands that may be confusing for many programs and providers. We have created an optional template for child care centers, preschools and public preschools that is available on the BrightStars Website under the “Important Announcements” section on the home page.
