Position Description:

East Bay Community Action Program (EBCAP) is seeking positive and energetic individuals for our internship program at our Chafee Head Start in Newport, RI.

Participate in a paid, Early Childhood Internship Program for up to 9 weeks or 180 training hours. The program is designed to prepare candidates to begin a career in Early Childhood Education with a focus on developmentally appropriate practices that ensures all children have the opportunity for a high-quality, nurturing, and safe learning experience.

The 9-week program will include in-person and virtual training, hands-on practice, classroom observation with instruction, assessment of skills, and group mentoring. Training will include early childhood development (birth to 5 years) and quality practices as outlined in Head Start Program Performance Standards, Rhode Island Child Care Center Regulations for Licensing, Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework, RI Early Learning and Development Standards, Incredible Years (IY), Conscious Discipline classroom strategies (CD), The Creative Curriculum and developmentally appropriate practices (DAP) as defined by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The program supports interns who complete training and practice to engage with children under the supervision of an Education Coordinator or Lead Teacher.

After the program candidates will have a portfolio to document the training and classroom hours completed. Qualified candidates will be encouraged to apply for entry-level employment with EBCAP in a Head Start, Early Head Start, or Pre-K classroom. Once hired, successful candidates will continue training and gain experience in an early childhood classroom to complete a training portfolio that supports the application for a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential. Continued employment following the completion of the internship is not a guarantee.
